How-To: Close a plushie with invisible/ “blind” stitches

15 March, 2008 · No Comments

I’ve been asked by a few people how to close the hole in the seam which you left open to a) turn your work inside out b) stuff you plushie. This is my way of doing it, basically the same one employed to mend tears in garments. I’ve drawn lines along the hole to represent the seam because this sample isn’t a real plushie!

1) Stick your needle into the hole from the right side of the plushie and out through to the front at the ‘X’.

2) Bring your thread across the hole, stick the needle into the fabric, front to back, then back to the front again at a distance about 1/4-1/8″, parallel to the hole.

3) Repeat step 2 several times so that your perpendicular stitches span the length of the hole. The closer together your stitches are, the neater your sewing will be.

4) Gently tug the thread to close the hole! Secure the thread and you’re done!
